KUALA LUMPUR, April 14 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim conveyed greetings for the New Year celebrations of Chithirai Puthandu, Vishu, and Vaisakhi, wishing the Tamil, Malayalee, and Sikh communities joy, good health, and blessings in the year ahead.
Anwar also called on Malaysians to take pride in the country’s rich diversity, which he described as a vibrant tapestry of colours that makes the nation unique and strong.
“Let us continue to uphold the spirit of unity — that is our true strength,” he said in a Facebook post.
Anwar also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering the Indian community through various initiatives.
“These include business financing schemes and improvements in critical areas such as education, places of worship, and employment opportunities.
“This is vital in fulfilling the aspiration to uplift the Indian community in Malaysia and to improve its socio-economic standing in the future,” he said.
The Tamil New Year is the first day of the Chittirai month (the first month of the Tamil calendar), Vaisakhi marks the harvest celebration according to the calendar of the Sikh community and Vishu symbolises the Malayalee New Year and is celebrated on the first day of the month of Medam in the Malayalam calendar.
