SHAH ALAM, Jan 17 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj and Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin today called on Muslims to remember and appreciate Israk Mikraj.
The Royal couple reminded Muslims that the 27 Rejab event is celebrated with confidence, and expressed belief that those who constantly pray and repent would be under God’s grace.
Their Royal Highnesses also reminded Muslims of the Israk Mikraj journey, as told during the Friday sermon yesterday.
“During the journey, the Prophet was shown various images of doom as a warning against deviating from fulfilling obligations to God and to fellow humans.
“There were groups where their heads were bashed repeatedly because they took prayer obligations lightly. Some were forced to eat thorny, bitter plants because they refused to fulfil their zakat obligations.
“Some chose rotten meat instead of good food because they were adulterous, or drowned in rivers of blood because they practised ‘riba’,” said Sultan Sharafuddin in a Facebook post on the Selangor Royal Office page today.
The Ruler added that the images were not meant to terrify, but to remind Muslims to be obedient to God and honour the rights of other people.
“This event also taught us the concept of ta’abbud, which is the submission and compliance with God’s orders even if they cannot be achieved with mere logic,” His Royal Highness said.
