Special Meeting With State Leaders Next Week to Discuss Actions on Uncertainty in West Asia

SHAH ALAM, March 27 — The government plans to bring together the top leadership of each state government, including political party leaders, in a special briefing expected to be held next week, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said the briefing, which will be delivered by the National Security Council (MKN) and the National Economic Action Council (MTEN), aims to discuss joint measures to guarantee economic sustainability and national security following the uncertain situation in the West Asia.

“We are once again grateful to Allah SWT because the problems we are facing are not as complex as those in several neighbouring countries. As of now, there has been no rationing, no sudden increase in RON95 (price). Supplies can also still be guaranteed until May and the situation is being monitored every day,” he said when met after performing Friday prayers with the people at Bukit Jelutong Mosque here today.

Commenting on the opposition’s proposal for a special session of the Dewan Rakyat to be held to discuss the implications of developments in West Asia, Anwar said the matter would only be considered after a more concrete plan was drawn up as a result of discussions with state leaders.

The Prime Minister also stressed that oil supply will remain stable until May as previously announced and is sufficient to meet domestic needs.

“Petronas’ specialty is its diversified investments, not only in the Gulf countries but also in Brazil, Suriname and Canada. So we are looking for ways to get returns and revenue here and meet local needs.

“So far, Alhamdulillah, if we have seen the dire situation in several countries around us, we should be grateful and not be too complacent and too busy with political issues but focus on defending the fate of the people and the country,” he said.
