Amir Hamzah to Perform Economy Minister’s Duties

PUTRAJAYA, June 27 — Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan will perform the duties and functions of economy minister, said Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.

Shamsul Azri, who is also Cabinet secretary, said the matter was discussed at a Cabinet meeting on Wednesday and has the agreement of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“Amir Hamzah’s primary responsibility is to review and revamp the core framework of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP), which will be tabled in Parliament on July 31,” he said in a statement today.

On May 28, Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli announced his resignation as economy minister, after losing the deputy president post in the Parti Keadilan Rakyat polls.

In a statement, Rafizi said his defeat meant he no longer had a mandate to carry out his party’s reform agenda in government. He lost to Nurul Izzah Anwar.

Meanwhile, Amir Hamzah in a statement thanked Anwar for trusting him with the tasks and responsibilities at the Economy Ministry.

Amir Hamzah said his current priority is to finalise the 13MP, and added that he has received feedback from Cabinet members about revising the 13MP to better reflect the Madani Government’s policies and sustain the momentum of the Madani Economy reform agenda.
