PETALING JAYA, Sept 28– Recipients of the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) aid among food delivery riders and small traders said the RON95 petrol subsidy under the Budi MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) initiative has been very helpful in reducing their operating costs.
Checks by Bernama found that STR recipients welcomed the initiative, as small traders, e-hailing drivers, and food delivery riders rely heavily on vehicles for their daily livelihood.
For Sharil Naufal, 24, a food delivery rider, even though the price reduction may seem small, the savings are significant as fuel is their main expense.
“The (petrol price) cut doesn’t look like much, but if you calculate it over a month, the total savings can be quite substantial. I can use the extra money for food expenses or save some.
“When there’s a faraway order, I don’t worry too much because now I can cover the extra fuel cost,” he told Bernama at a Petron Subang Indah station here today.
A florist, Muhammad Firdaus Andi, 28, described the government’s implementation of the BUDI95 initiative as timely since Malaysians truly benefit from it.
“It’s very helpful, especially for people like me who commute daily from home to the shop. For me, the most important thing is that this fuel subsidy is only enjoyed by Malaysian citizens and not outsiders. So I feel this is a big improvement by the government because it is fairer and more transparent,” he said.
Automotive technician Jiman Laweh, 38, also said the refuelling process under the BUDI95 initiative is very simple and quick, as it only requires a MyKad.
“The process is straightforward — you can use your MyKad either at the payment counter or directly at the fuel pump machine. The staff here are also very helpful, showing customers how to use their MyKad at the pump, so it doesn’t feel difficult,” he said.
However, Jiman hoped the system could be further improved to avoid technical issues at some locations.
BUDI95 will be fully implemented on Sept 30, involving 16 million Malaysians who hold a MyKad and a valid driving licence.
