Govt Charts Sustainable Energy Future With New Gas Roadmap

PUTRAJAYA, Nov 12 – THE second meeting of the National Energy Council (MTN) for 2025 today discussed and approved sustainable strategies outlined under the Natural Gas Roadmap (NGR).

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who chaired the meeting, said the measures are aimed at ensuring the country’s energy security while supporting socio-economic growth and the transition to a low-carbon economy.

“The main focus now is to increase the share of renewable energy to 35 percent by 2030, expand access to the open grid, and intensify investment in green technology and new energy, in line with the Thirteenth Malaysia Plan (RMK13).

“This is to strengthen the national energy system to be more innovative, competitive, and inclusive, in order to ensure the well-being of the people and the sustainability of Malaysia’s future,” he said in a Facebook post today.

The Prime Minister added that the council also approved the development of an e-Mobility Service Platform that will integrate and coordinate the operation of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across the country.

Anwar emphasised that the MADANI Government remains committed to translating the nation’s energy transition aspirations into reality, positioning Malaysia as a resilient leader in sustainable low-carbon economic growth. – November 12, 2025
