JAKARTA, Oct 31– Passenger numbers on the Whoosh high-speed train rose 6.3 per cent to 5.1 million between January and October 2025, compared with the same period last year, PT Kereta Cepat Indonesia-China (KCIC) has reported.
Since starting commercial operations in October 2023, Southeast Asia’s first high-speed rail system has carried more than 12.2 million passengers.
“The rise in passenger numbers shows that the public increasingly relies on the Whoosh high-speed train as a fast and reliable way to travel between Jakarta and Bandung,” KCIC’s corporate secretary, Eva Chairunisa, said in a statement.
She said the growth has been supported by 62 daily services and the opening of Karawang Station, which provides more departure options and improves connections between regions.
Built at a cost of about US$7.3 billion, Whoosh covers a 142-kilometre route between Halim in East Jakarta and Tegalluar in Bandung, West Java in around 40 minutes, reaching speeds of up to 350 kilometres per hour.
