KTS Group Inks Deal With Minqing County, UPM to Develop Satellite Big Data Industry

KUCHING, Dec 1 – KTS Group last Thursday signed a cooperation agreement with the Minqing County People’s Government and Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) to jointly promote the development of the UPM Malaysia-China satellite big data industry in Minqing County, China.

Signing the agreement were County Magistrate of Mingqing County People’s Government Chen Yu, UPM China Super Satellite Centre (CSSC) director Chen Yongming, and KTS Group managing director Dato Henry Lau.

The signing ceremony was witnessed by Beruas MP Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham and Deputy Party Secretary of Fujian Province and Communist Party Secretary of Fuzhou Guo Ningning.

Under this agreement, the Minqing County Digital Intelligence Computing Industrial Park, currently under construction, will serve as the core platform for the implementation of China-Malaysia cooperation projects in satellite applications, artificial intelligence (AI) research and big data.

The agreement also aims to enhance collaboration with UPM in areas such as the incubation of the satellite big data industry.

KTS Group will be the sole distributor of these satellite data and products in Malaysia while promoting the commercial aerospace industry ecosystem outside China, including promoting aerospace science education and jointly exploring the global market for the commercial aerospace industry, according to an Oriental Daily report yesterday.

Speaking to Oriental Daily, KTS Group project manager Kelvin Ting said this collaboration serves as a significant step for the group to transform from traditional industries.

He extended appreciation to the UPM CSSC for partnering and sharing its technology with KTS Group in developing this new project.

He said the Minqing County People’s Government has provided a platform and opportunities for KTS Group to enter into a new business region.

Touching on the objectives, Ting said they have a mutual understanding and goal of developing Minqing into a high-tech county in China.

“We also hope that through this cooperation, KTS will stand out in this industry and become the preferred partner in Malaysia, be it China and other potential markets,” he said.

In addition, KTS Group sealed another agreement with the Minqing County People’s Government to upgrade the facilities and services at the Minqing Qiyuan Hotel.

This is in line with strengthening economic and trade exchanges between Minqing County, China and Malaysia.

Based on the agreement, the upgrading project involves a development area of approximately 15 acres, and includes the construction of a high-end indoor leisure centre, a quality Central Business District centre and leisure walkways, which partially come with cultural themes such as Minqing green building elements and art exhibition.

The signing ceremony themed ‘Fuzhou, the City of Blessings’ was hosted by the Fuzhou Municipal Government in Kuala Lumpur.

The agreements that will witness economic and trade cooperation among the three parties are estimated at 2.45 billion yuan (approximately RM1.43 billion).
