Schools to Close If Temperature Exceeds 37ºC For Three Days Straight

IPOH, March 27 — Schools may temporarily close if temperatures exceed 37ºC for three consecutive days, said Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh.

He said this is under guidelines set by the Education Ministry (MOE) in 2023 and can be implemented if the hot and dry weather worsens.

“State Education Departments and schools have sufficient experience in managing the current situation,” he said after a working visit to SJKT Gopeng here today.

“Outdoor school activities must also be suspended if temperatures range between 35ºC and 37ºC for three consecutive days, including cross-country runs, camping, drills, and other outdoor activities,” Wong said.

MOE has instructed administrators, including principals, headmasters and District Education Offices, to monitor daily temperatures at their respective schools and districts.
