NAGOYA, July 31 – Toyota Motor Corp. said Thursday it has halted production lines at 11 domestic plants due to tsunami warnings and advisories nationwide after a magnitude 8.8 earthquake struck off Russia’s Kamchatka Peninsula the previous day, Kyodo news agency reported.
A decision on whether to resume operations at the affected plants, up from eight the previous day, will be made in the afternoon. The company said its supply chain has been disrupted due to a suspension of logistics operations in coastal areas.
The automaker’s plants in Iwate and Miyagi prefectures in northeastern Japan are among the suspended facilities.
