SHAH ALAM, April 2 — Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) has denied claims of an electricity tariff increase beginning this month.
In a statement last night, TNB stressed that any adjustment to electricity costs is currently subject to the Automatic Fuel Adjustment (AFA) mechanism, which has been implemented in the energy sector since July 2025.
TNB said the information circulating has the potential to mislead the public, adding that it will report the spread of false information to the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) for further action.
“The AFA rate is based on changes in global fuel prices as well as foreign exchange rates, and is adjusted monthly with verification from the Energy Commission (ST).
“TNB emphasises that any changes related to AFA rates will be officially announced through its authorised channels, and remains committed to ensuring consumers receive accurate and transparent information,” it said, as reported by Berita Harian.
Meanwhile, TNB advised the public not to spread unverified information and to refer only to official announcements from the relevant authorities.
“The public should verify the authenticity of content before sharing to avoid confusion.
“Any enquiries or doubtful information can be channelled via direct message on Facebook TNB Careline and the X platform @Tenaga_Nasional, or via email at CareLine@myTNB.my,” it said.
