SEPANG, Oct 1 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that Malaysia will initiate a strong protest if the Gaza-bound Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian aid vessel is intercepted or seized by Israel.
He said, besides that, diplomatic efforts with various other countries, including world global powers, would also be mobilised.
“We will initiate a strong and comprehensive protest, and I will strive to contact all parties, including countries that have presented a (peace) proposal, especially Italy, Spain and Turkey, with support from China.
“We are also looking at initiatives presented by France and Saudi Arabia, with whom we are in contact, as they intend to propose peace,” he said.
He said this at the media conference after visiting the Sumud Nusantara Command Centre (SNCC) here on Tuesday.
Anwar also stressed the importance of forging close relationships with Western and Arab countries as well as other major powers, including the United States, to ensure the voices of the Palestinian people can be heard at all levels globally.
“Ties with Western and Arab countries and the region are crucial, including with the US.
“I hope our friends in this struggle are not swayed by the chatter here, (because) they understand the meaning of negotiations and the insistence for world leaders, especially the US, to accept the reality and the demands of the global community,” he said.
Anwar hopes his meeting with US President Donald Trump during the 47th Asean Summit in October will provide an effective resolution to ending the genocide in Gaza.
Anwar added that although the resolution achieved may not satisfy all parties, Malaysia’s basic demand remains clear — an immediate end to the violent attacks on Gaza.
Thirty-four Malaysians are onboard the GSF mission, currently in international waters near Greece.
They are part of a larger group of activists from 45 countries sailing to Gaza to break the siege on the enclave. The flotilla has already faced several challenges, including drone attacks.
The voyage across the Mediterranean carries food, medicine and a message of peace, calling for an end to war and famine and demanding the opening of humanitarian corridors into Gaza.
