Cabinet Reshuffle: Amirudin Leaves It to PM, Prefers to Stay Until End of Term

SHAH ALAM, Dec 10 — Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has reiterated his preference to continue leading Selangor’s administration until the end of the current term, despite his name being mentioned amid rumours of a Federal cabinet reshuffle.

He will leave the matter entirely to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s discretion.

“I leave that to the Prime Minister’s wisdom, but as I have said many times and quite consistently, any consideration of that sort would be better after the end of the term. We only have about 1.5 years left, or at most two years.

“If it is two years, usually there is not much new that can be done, nor many tasks that can be completed properly. So it is better for me to finish the work here.

“I am trying to ensure that we regain the state with a significant margin and that we can complete the existing plans and initiatives,” Amirudin told the media after a handover ceremony for mosque and surau contributions at the State Secretariat Building today.

Previously, it was reported that his name was among those of political figures considered for appointment as a Federal minister.

Amirudin has served as the Menteri Besar since 2018 and became the youngest to assume the role in the state government’s history when he was appointed at age 38 in 2018.
