KUALA LUMPUR, May 16 – China’s growing leadership in artificial intelligence (AI) and technology innovation took centre stage Thursday at the 2025 China Smart Industry Trade Exhibition, held here Thursday, organised by the China Entrepreneurs Association in Malaysia (PUCM).
The event brought together government officials, tech innovators, and business leaders from both China and Malaysia to explore new opportunities for collaboration in the smart industry sector.
Speaking at the event, Minister of the Chinese Embassy in Malaysia, Mr Zheng Xuefang said that the cooperation potential and prospects between China and Malaysia in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) are immense and promising.
“China is now a global AI powerhouse with advanced technology, strong government backing and a huge market, while Malaysia is an emerging player aimed to achieve economic growth and regional competitiveness via AI development. There is great potential in cooperation for both countries,” he said.
The exhibition comes on the heels of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s state visit to Malaysia, during which the president and Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim elevated bilateral ties to a high-level strategic partnership under the banner of a “China-Malaysia Community with a Shared Future.”
“China-Malaysia cooperation has now entered into the fast lane. With strategic guidance from leaders of both sides, China and Malaysia will embrace another “golden 50 years”, Mr Xuefang said.
He said China had received widespread attention for its remarkable achievements made in sci-tech innovation, represented by DeepSeek’s launch of the open-source model and Beijing hosting the world’s first humanoid half-marathon.
‘China has now caught up from “running after” to “running aside” and even surpassed others to “running ahead” in the global sci-tech innovation run. Actually, sci-tech progress has become the major driving force in boosting China’s high-quality development,” he said.
China stands ready to work with partners worldwide to shape an open, fair, and secure global AI ecosystem, he added.
“China adheres to inclusive development, advocating for promoting “technological equality” and reducing “digital divide. Supporting training AI professionals globally, China has formulated the ‘AI Capacity-Building Action Plan forGood and for All”, aiming o cultivate more AI tlents and helping the Global South to equally benefit from it.
“China strongly advocates AI being “for people’s goodness and “doing goodness to people”, he said, adding that China had released “AI Safety Governance Framework” to counter endogenous and application safety risks.
The event was officially launched by Malaysia’s Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching.
