SEGAMAT, Aug 28 — Segamat was once again hit by a minor earthquake tonight, marking the third incident in the area within a few days.
The Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) said the 2.5-magnitude earthquake occurred at 7.56pm, with the epicentre detected about 13km north of Segamat, Johor, at a depth of 10km.
“Tremors were also felt around Johor. MetMalaysia will continue to monitor the situation,” it said in a statement on Facebook tonight.
MetMalaysia urged members of the public who felt the tremors to answer a survey to help authorities get details on the incident.
In recent days, two other earthquakes were reported in the district, raising concerns among residents, although no damage has been reported so far.
Yesterday, MetMalaysia confirmed a 3.2-magnitude temblor in Segamat at 8.59am, with tremors felt in several parts of Johor and southern Pahang.
On August 24, MetMalaysia confirmed two minor earthquakes, one measuring 4.1 magnitude in Segamat at 6.13am and another of 2.8 magnitude in Yong Peng, 28km northwest of Kluang, at 9am.
