TOKYO, April 10 — Former Japan and AC Milan attacker Keisuke Honda will join FC Jurong, to be renamed from Albirex Niigata Singapore in the new season, in the Southeast Asian country’s top division, the club announced Friday, Kyodo News reported.
Honda, who scored for Japan at three successive World Cups through the 2018 tournament in Russia, will be 40 when he is scheduled to arrive at his new club in August.
“My primary goal with this club is to win the league title. There are a couple of very strong rivals, so it will be a tough challenge, but I am determined to achieve it,” Honda said in a statement released by the club.
The Osaka Prefecture native is one of Japan’s most successful players with 98 caps and 37 goals. Singapore will be the 11th country for Honda to play professionally since making his debut with Nagoya Grampus in the J-League in 2005.
Following stints with VVV-Venlo in the Netherlands, CSKA Moscow in Russia and Milan in Italy, Honda played in Mexico, Australia, Brazil, Azerbaijan and Lithuania.
Most recently as an active player, Honda appeared in two games during the 2024-25 season for Paro FC in Bhutan, according to Albirex Niigata Singapore.
Honda previously served as general manager of the Cambodian men’s national team through 2023.
