Moscow-Born Tennis Player Rybakina Wins WTA Finals, Defeating World No.1 Sabalenka

MOSCOW, Nov 9 – Moscow-born Elena Rybakina, now representing Kazakhstan, became the winner of the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) Finals, the season’s culmination with a prize fund of US$15.5 million, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.

In the final match, Rybakina defeated world number one Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus with a score of 6-3, 7-6 (7-0). The match lasted 1 hour and 47 minutes.

Russian player Veronika Kudermetova and Belgium’s Elise Mertens defeated Timea Babos of Hungary and Luisa Stefani of Brazil in the doubles final of the WTA Finals.

The match ended with a score of 7-6 (7-4), 6-1. The players spent 1 hour and 37 minutes on the court.

Kudermetova and Mertens won the WTA Finals for the second time; their previous win was in 2022. In July, the Russian and the Belgian won Wimbledon in doubles for the first time in their careers.
