MOSCOW, Aug 12 – United States (US) entrepreneur Elon Musk said US tech giant Apple does not allow any artificial intelligence (AI) companies except OpenAI to reach the first line in the ranking of its App Store, Sputnik/RIA Novosti reported.
Musk called it “an unequivocal antitrust violation” and promised that his company xAI would take legal action.
“Apple is behaving in a manner that makes it impossible for any AI company besides OpenAI to reach #1 in the App Store, which is an unequivocal antitrust violation. xAI will take immediate legal action,” Musk wrote on X.
xAI is developing the Grok AI, which was presented in November 2023. In March 2024, xAI open-sourced Grok.
Grok currently ranks 6th in the App Store, under the section for “Top Free Apps” for iPhones, while ChatGPT by OpenAI is at No 1.
The ChatGPT chatbot gained popularity after its launch in late November 2022, reaching its first million users in less than a week. Musk co-founded OpenAI in 2015, but later severed ties with the startup.
