South Korea Lee’s Approval Rating Rebounds on Tariff Deal With US: Poll

SEOUL, Nov 3 — South Korean President Lee Jae Myung’s approval rating rebounded for the first time in three weeks, driven by positive sentiment over a recently finalised tariff deal with the United States, a survey showed Monday, Yonhap News Agency reported.

According to the survey by Realmeter commissioned by a local news outlet, 53 per cent gave a positive assessment of Lee’s job performance, up 1.8 percentage points from the previous week.

Negative assessment of Lee fell 1.6 percentage points to 43.3 per cent.

Realmeter attributed the rebound to Lee’s pragmatic diplomatic achievements, including completing a tariff deal with USs President Donald Trump at their summit on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) gathering in the southeastern city of Gyeongju.

The pollster also cited positive economic indicators, such as the benchmark Korea Composite Stock Price Index breaking the 4,000 mark for the first time last week.
