NEW YORK, April 30 (Xinhua) — The United States (US) government is set to issue the first tariff refund payment around May 11, according to an order filed on Tuesday with the country’s Court of International Trade, reported Xinhua.
About 21 per cent of import entries previously subject to tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) have been approved for duty removal through a new Customs and Border Protection process called the Consolidated Administration and Processing of Entries (CAPE), the order said.
The judge, who issued the order and is overseeing the refund process, said about three per cent of IEEPA entries have been liquidated through CAPE and are in the refund stage.
The US Supreme Court ruled on Feb. 20 that President Donald Trump’s tariff policies under IEEPA are unconstitutional.
Businesses and individuals paid IEEPA tariffs on approximately 53 million entries, according to information shared earlier by the US government.
