KUALA LUMPUR, May 28 — A train on the Ampang/Sri Petaling Line derailed this morning while passing through a track switch area near Chan Sow Lin station.
Rapid KL confirmed in a statement today that the incident was caused by a faulty track switch, leaving the train unable to move and disrupting service schedules along the affected route.
In response, Rapid KL activated an alternative service plan, including free connecting train and bus services, to assist affected commuters.
Rapid KL also verified the authenticity of images of the incident currently circulating on social media.
“At the time of the incident, there were 25 passengers on board the train. All passengers were safely evacuated following operating procedures, and no injuries were reported.
“Passenger and staff safety remain our top priority. Our technical team is conducting further investigations and recovery work at the location,” the statement said.
The alternative service plan includes trains from Sentul Timur station turning back at Pudu station at four-minute intervals.
Shuttle trains are operating between Cheras station and Bandar Tasik Selatan station on Platform 1 every eight minutes.
Shuttle trains are also running between Ampang station and Pandan Jaya station on Platform 1 at five-minute intervals, while trains from Putra Heights station are turning back at Bandar Tasik Selatan station every four minutes.
In addition, free shuttle buses are operating between Hang Tuah, Chan Sow Lin, Maluri and Pandan Jaya stations, as well as between Hang Tuah, Chan Sow Lin and Cheras stations. Bus frequency ranges from 15 to 20 minutes, depending on traffic conditions.
Rapid KL advised passengers travelling into the city centre via the Putrajaya Line to transfer trains at Sungai Besi station and follow instructions from station staff throughout the disruption period.
“We apologise for any inconvenience caused. Passengers are advised to refer to Rapid KL’s official social media channels and the MyRapid PULSE app for the latest updates,” the statement said.
