Man Gored to Death By Buffalo During Qurban Ritual in Ulu Tiram

JOHOR BAHRU, May 28 — A local man died after being gored by a buffalo while assisting in a qurban (sacrificial) ritual at Kampung Tenang, Ulu Tiram, here yesterday.

Seri Alam district police chief ACP Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said the incident occurred at about 10 am and the 45-year-old victim, who sustained injuries, was rushed to Sultanah Aminah Hospital for treatment.

“However, at about 11 pm on the same day, the victim was pronounced dead at the hospital,” he said in a statement today.

He said post-mortem findings revealed that the cause of death was due to vascular injuries to the victim’s left leg and the case was classified as sudden death. 

Meanwhile in a separate incident, a 45-year-old local man suffered a fractured left rib after a buffalo suddenly turned aggressive and gored him in an incident at Batu 19, Kampung Sungai Tiram, here yesterday.

The incident, which also went viral on social media, occurred at about 2 pm and the victim is receiving treatment at Sultan Ismail Hospital.

Mohd Sohaimi said Johor State Veterinary Department had been informed of both incidents for further action. 

At the same time, he advised the public not to speculate or spread unverified information regarding the cases.
