Azerbaijan Eyeing Strong Trade Relations With Malaysia – Ambassador

KUALA LUMPUR, May 29 — Azerbaijan is eyeing stronger cooperation with Malaysia in the economic, trade and investment sectors as bilateral relations between the two countries continue to grow positively, said Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Malaysia, Irfan Davudov.

He said the commitment would be reflected through a visit by Azerbaijan’s Economy Minister, Mikayil Jabbarov, who is expected to lead a large delegation to Malaysia soon.

“He has planned to visit soon with a huge delegation. Azerbaijan wants to discuss issues in developing and expanding cooperation in economic spheres with Malaysia,” he told Bernama at the reception marking Azerbaijan’s Independence Day here on Thursday.

Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil represented the Malaysian government at the reception.

Davudov said Azerbaijan also wants to strengthen cooperation with Malaysia in the education sector, as more Azeribaijanis pursue their studies here.

“Two years ago, there were only four Azerbaijan students in Malaysia, today, there are 60. Azerbaijan plans to increase the number in years to come,” he added.

He also expressed hope that the bilateral relations will continue to grow significantly in the years ahead.

Meanwhile, Fahmi, when met, said that during his visit to Baku last November, he discussed avenues to strengthen bilateral cooperation in broadcasting and telecommunications with his counterpart, Rashad Nabiyev.

He said Malaysia and Azerbaijan can benefit from each other’s experience to further strengthen close relations and cooperation between the two countries.

Azerbaijan established diplomatic relations with Malaysia in 1993.
