WASHINGTON, Oct 14– US President Donald Trump said Tuesday that Taiwan has agreed to buy 30 per cent of the liquefied natural gas (LNG) from a planned pipeline project in Alaska over the next two decades, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.
“Taiwan has just agreed to buy 30 per cent of the gas coming off the pipeline for the next 20 years. That guarantees a success,” Trump said at a campaign rally in Wasilla, Alaska.
“It’s one of the biggest commitments in history for anything. It’s one of the biggest deals ever made,” he added.
Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick, who also appeared at the rally, said Taiwan has committed to investing $4.4 billion in the development of the pipeline.
Trump’s remarks came following media reports that Taiwan’s state-owned energy company CPC Corp reached an agreement last year with the Alaska Gasline Development Corp to buy LNG from the project and invest in it.
The project would carry gas by pipeline from Alaska’s remote north to the state’s south, where it would be shipped as liquefied natural gas to buyers.
