SHAH ALAM, July 26 — Selangor state executive councillor for youth, sports and entrepreneurship Mohd Najwan Halimi has urged authorities not to suspend trains or close public transport stations in Kuala Lumpur ahead of the Turun Anwar rally tomorrow, saying public access should not be disrupted.
This comes after a purported notice circulated on social media claiming that the KTM Bank Negara and Kuala Lumpur stations will be closed 9am to 5pm tomorrow, although KTMB said on Facebook that there has been no official notice from the management.
In a post on X, Najwan said public transport should operate as usual to accommodate not only rallygoers but also people heading into the capital.
“There’s no need to halt train services or close any stations in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow. Let them operate as usual,” the Kota Anggerik assemblyman said.
“Apart from those heading to KL to join the demonstration, many others will be visiting the capital over the weekend for various reasons, including spending time with their families. Let the people go about their business as usual.”
Najwan also expressed confidence in the Royal Malaysia Police, saying they would be professional and measured in managing public safety during the rally.
Yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim told police to facilitate the Perikatan Nasional-led demonstration, in line with democratic principles and freedom of speech.
In a livestream yesterday, Anwar’s senior press secretary Tunku Nashrul Abaidah said the prime minister had made clear that the rally should proceed without undue restriction or intimidation.
