KOTA KINABALU, Sept 15 – The power supply disruption that hit Sandakan district has been fully restored, said Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (Sabah Electricity) Chief Executive Officer Datuk Ir. Ts. Mohd Yaakob Jaafar.
He said restoration works in the district were carried out in stages beginning on Saturday and supply was fully restored at 3.11pm on Sunday.
Sandakan was among the districts affected after a disruption occurred on the 275kV Kolopis–Segaliud transmission line at 5.05pm on Saturday.
Mohd Yaakob said inspections and investigations by Sabah Electricity’s technical team revealed that a transmission tower located in Kampung Sarapung had shifted from its original position due to a landslide, disrupting the 275kV Kolopis–Segaliud transmission line.
The incident also affected consumers in Lahad Datu, Kinabatangan, Kunak, Semporna and Beluran.
Mohd Yaakob explained that Sabah Electricity deployed 27 generator sets to affected areas, including Telupid, Kinabatangan, Lahad Datu, Semporna and Tawau.
“The generators were placed at strategic locations such as hospitals, police stations, fire stations and health clinics to minimise disruption to critical services,” he said.
He added that installation of an Emergency Restoration System (ERS) tower will proceed as planned.
“The container carrying the ERS arrived at the location of the collapsed tower at 2pm today. Our technical team will install the ERS to temporarily replace the fallen permanent tower,” he said.
Sabah Electricity expressed appreciation to all affected consumers in the East Coast of Sabah for their patience and understanding, and apologised for the inconvenience caused.
Mohd Yaakob also extended his gratitude to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor and the State Government for their concern and support over the incident.
