KUALA LUMPUR, May 20 — The services, sacrifices and commitment of the Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) staff have successfully positioned the agency as one of the country’s important pillars in delivering authentic and high-integrity news, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
He said the role played by Bernama has also strengthened public understanding, preserved national unity and elevated Malaysia’s image on the international stage, particularly amid the rapid rise of digital technology, artificial intelligence (AI) and the overflow of borderless information, as well as the challenges of the increasingly complex media world.
“Happy 59th anniversary to BERNAMA. May it continue to uphold facts, journalistic ethics and public trust, ensuring that the people receive truthful and responsible information,” Anwar posted on Facebook.
Bernama was established under the Bernama Act 1967 and began operations on May 20, 1968, initially providing text news services before expanding into photo, radio, television and digital media platforms.
The agency currently employs 967 staff members comprising permanent, contract and part-time personnel.
