China Masters 2025: Aaron-Wooi Yik Into Semis, Pearly-Thinaah Fall Short

KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 20 — Malaysia’s men’s doubles pair Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik stormed into the semi-finals of the China Masters 2025 after edging Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando-Bagas Maulana in the quarter-finals on Friday.

The former world champions displayed composure to secure victory against the Indonesians, sealing a 21-19, 21-18 straight sets win at the Shenzhen Arena.

In semi-finals, they will face arch rivals Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty from India, with their head-to-head record 11-4 in favour of the Malaysian pair.

Meanwhile, national women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-Thinaah Muralitharan went down fighting in a gruelling 88-minute encounter against South Korea’s Baek Ha Na-Lee So Hee, losing 21-23, 21-19, 20-22.

The result tied their head-to-head record at 3-3.

“Today’s match was more of a mental endurance because physically all of us were tired after some gruelling rallies. Just the mentality that kept us holding on the court.

“In the end, we did something wrong; we were too rushed at match point. That is something we need to discuss and improve,” Tan said in an audio shared by BWF.

Meanwhile, Thinaah credited the Koreans for showing greater composure towards the end.
