AICHI, Sept 23 — Taj Izrin Aiman Taj Madira kept his nerve when it mattered most to deliver Malaysia’s second gold medal at the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, powering to the Gran Turismo 7 (GT7) esports title at Aichi Sky Expo here today.
The 27-year-old showed remarkable consistency across three races, finishing runner-up in the opening two before producing a crucial pole-position finish in the final race to seal the title with 36 points overall.
With the gold still within reach heading into the decider, Taj Izrin Aiman kept his composure and made the final race count, completing a comeback that secured the championship.
His victory also ended Malaysia’s wait for a second gold of the Games, coming after national karate exponent Adeola Fay Robert opened the country’s gold-medal account.
The national e-sports squad have an opportunity to add to Malaysia’s medal haul after securing a place in the semi-finals of the e-football event this evening.
Malaysia are scheduled to face Uzbekistan in the semi-finals, with the final also set to take place tonight.
