Malaysia Reaffirms Role as ASEAN-China Dialogue Coordinator, Strengthens Ties With Beijing

KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 — Malaysia has reaffirmed its full commitment as Country Coordinator for ASEAN-China Dialogue Relations for the 2024-2027 term, said Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.

He said Malaysia also expressed appreciation for China’s continued support and trust in Malaysia’s leadership as the Chair of ASEAN in 2025.

Mohamad said he and his Chinese counterpart, Wang Yi, exchanged views on ASEAN-China dialogue relations and reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthen bilateral cooperation between Malaysia and China.

“Both countries acknowledged the importance of advancing strategic partnership initiatives, including economic collaboration, regional connectivity and sustainable development,” he said after a bilateral meeting with Wang Yi on the sidelines of the 58th ASEAN Foreign Ministers’ Meeting (AMM) and related meetings at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) here Thursday.

Mohamad said both sides also followed up on the successful State Visit and the Joint Statement on Deepening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and Building a Malaysia-China Community with a Shared Future.

He added that the priority areas discussed included cooperation in technical and vocational education and training (TVET), artificial intelligence (AI), security, digital economy, research and development, and the “Two Countries, Twin Parks” initiative – a flagship project symbolising deeper industrial and economic ties.

Mohamad said the meeting concluded on a positive note, with both sides reaffirming their shared aspiration to foster closer ties, enhance regional peace and security and promote mutual prosperity.
