KUALA LUMPUR, July 12 – Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming reiterated that he is prepared to resign from the Cabinet if the integrity of the country’s judicial system is compromised.
In a Facebook post today, he said the position was based on principle and was not linked to any personal matter.
“Referring to certain parties urging me to resign, please read my full statement during the exclusive interview with the Oriental Daily,” he said.
Nga said the remarks reflected his longstanding position as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya, that the credibility of the country’s judicial system must be upheld.
“If Datuk Seri Najib, who caused the Malaysian public to bear the RM51.4 billion 1MDB debt, can be released without serving a punishment befitting the offence despite already being found guilty, it means the credibility of the nation’s judicial system has been pawned, and the principle of the rule of law as enshrined in the Rukun Negara is also no longer respected,” he said.
He added that he was prepared to resign from the Cabinet if such a situation were to occur in order to defend the integrity of the country’s judicial system.
