ISTANBUL, Aug 5 — Turkish football club Trabzonspor announced late Tuesday that it has officially begun talks to sign Egyptian star Mohamed Salah, Anadolu Ajansi (AA) reported.
“Negotiations have begun over the transfer of professional soccer player Mohamed Salah, who is a free agent, to our club,” Trabzonspor said in a statement sent to the Istanbul Stock Exchange which was published on Türkiye’s Public Disclosure Platform.
In a separate statement, the club announced that Salah will be at Istanbul Atatürk Airport General Aviation Terminal at 12 pm local time on Wednesday.
He is also scheduled to arrive in Trabzon on the same day in the evening hours.
The 34-year-old announced in March that he would be leaving English Premier League club Liverpool FC at the end of the 2025-2026 season.
During his time there, Salah helped Liverpool win the UEFA Champions League, two Premier League titles, a FIFA Club World Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FA Cup and two League Cup titles. He became Liverpool’s leading Premier League goalscorer and the highest-scoring foreign player in Premier League history while also establishing himself as the all-time leading African scorer in the UEFA Champions League.
His honours also extend to include two CAF African Footballer of the Year awards, two BBC African Footballer of the Year awards, numerous Premier League Golden Boots and repeated selections in FIFA and continental teams of the year.
Various unconfirmed media reports suggest that Salah is negotiating a two-year contract for a yearly salary of €17 million (US$19.6 million).
