Amirudin Says Selangor Targeting RM90b in Investments This Year

BANGI, Oct 24 — Selangor is targeting RM90 billion in investments this year, up from RM80 billion recorded last year, on the state’s encouraging investment momentum, said Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the state government is confident it can keep attracting domestic and foreign investments by strengthening economic competitiveness and providing a conducive environment for investors.

“We are targeting RM90 billion in investments this year based on Selangor’s potential and investment performance,” he said when officiating the Madani Kita@Sungai Ramal event at SK Jalan Tiga Bandar Baru Bangi here today.

Selangor recorded RM70 billion in approved investments in the first half of 2026.

The performance has cemented Selangor’s position as one of the country’s premier investment destinations, especially in the manufacturing and services sectors, he said.

Amirudin added that Selangor contributed 26.5 per cent to the country’s gross domestic product (GDP), making it one of the main drivers of Malaysia’s economic activity.

He said the state’s economy is valued at about RM460 billion and is set to reach RM500 billion within the next two years.

He was previously reported as saying that Selangor’s strong investment performance is driven by the state government’s consistent strategy of conducting overseas investment missions, including to France, Germany, Saudi Arabia, and South Korea.

Meanwhile, he said the state’s economic and investment performance must be accompanied by efforts to ensure the people benefit from the growth.

The government must balance efforts to attract investments and create jobs with initiatives to help the people cope with rising living costs, he added.

Amirudin said this approach is in line with the principle of “reaching for the sky while anchored in our values”, which emphasises ensuring achievements on the international stage go hand in hand with efforts to safeguard the people’s well-being.

He said the state government continues to review various programmes to identify shortcomings and improve service delivery.

He added that the goal of development is not just to achieve strong growth, but also to ensure people from all ethnic backgrounds enjoy progress and more comfortable lives.

The Selangor government is also focusing on hi-tech sectors, the digital economy and high-value industries to enhance Selangor’s competitiveness and attract quality investments, Amirudin said.
