Anwar Meets Myanmar President as Repatriation Talks Take Centre Stage

PUTRAJAYA, Oct 8 — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim held a one-on-one meeting with Myanmar President Min Aung Hlaing at the Perdana Putra Complex here today.

Anwar welcomed Min Aung Hlaing at the complex at 9 am, followed by an official welcoming ceremony.

Min Aung Hlaing arrived yesterday for a two-day official visit, with the repatriation of Myanmar nationals in Malaysia among the key issues to be discussed with the prime minister.

Following their one-on-one meeting, both leaders proceeded to a delegation meeting.

Among the Cabinet ministers present were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Defence Minister Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin, Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Johari Abdul Ghani, who served as the minister-in-attendance.

Wisma Putra said yesterday that the visit would also provide Anwar with an opportunity to maintain direct engagement with Myanmar, in line with the decision made at the 48th ASEAN Summit in May 2026 to continue constructive and principled engagement with the country.

It said Myanmar remains an integral part of ASEAN, and Malaysia, as a fellow member state, would continue supporting the bloc’s efforts to promote peace, reconciliation and access to humanitarian assistance in the country.

Malaysia will also work closely with all ASEAN member states to ensure regional stability and prosperity.
