HYDERABAD, Aug 12 — Bangladesh is seeking to deepen cooperation with Malaysia in the halal industry, with a major business delegation set to participate in the Malaysia International Halal Showcase (MIHAS) 2026 in Kuala Lumpur next month to explore partnerships in halal tourism, logistics and export processing zones.
Bangladesh-Malaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BMCCI) president Mohammad Anwar Shahid said the Dhaka-based trade body would use MIHAS as a platform to engage with Malaysian companies and government agencies, including seeking support for an international halal conference proposed to be held in Bangladesh in March next year.
“We will do our best to develop collaboration with Malaysia to grow our halal industries because not only Bangladesh is a big market on its own but we also aim to increase our exports,” he told Bernama.
The BMCCI will discuss the initiative with Malaysian agencies, including JAKIM and Halal Development Corporation Bhd (HDC), during MIHAS 2026, scheduled to take place at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC) from Sept. 23 to 26.
“We will have a big Bangladesh delegation at MIHAS this time. We seek cooperation with Malaysia in areas like halal tourism, logistics and export processing zones,” Mohammad Anwar said.
He said Bangladesh’s Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) had also extended its support for the proposed international conference.
Meanwhile, Malaysian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Mohd Shuhada Othman highlighted the strong potential for Malaysia-Bangladesh collaboration in the halal industry during a recent BMCCI-organised webinar titled “Bilateral Trade and Investment Opportunities in Malaysia through Participation in the 22nd MIHAS 2026”.
He encouraged Bangladeshi businesses to participate actively in the world’s leading halal business platform to explore new trade, investment and partnership opportunities.
Bangladesh is Malaysia’s 28th largest trading partner globally. Trade between Malaysia and Bangladesh totalled RM12.18 billion in 2025, with Malaysian exports valued around RM10 billion.
