Biofuel Committee Established to Accelerate National Energy Security Agenda – Akmal

KUALA LUMPUR, April 28 — The government has established a high-level biofuel committee to coordinate and accelerate the implementation of the national energy security agenda, said Economy Minister Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir.

He said the national energy security agenda needs to be driven more comprehensively, including through the more strategic use of domestic resources.

“In this regard, the government is strengthening the implementation of biodiesel as a measure to extend energy supply, reduce dependence on imports and support the local industry,” he said at a briefing on the global supply crisis today.

Akmal Nasrullah said the government will also continue to focus on fertiliser supply and agricultural inputs to ensure food security.

He said the visit to a fertiliser plant facility was aimed at assessing challenges faced by the local fertiliser industry, particularly uncertainties in raw material supply, rising logistics costs and input price pressures.

“Discussions with industry players focused on efforts to diversify raw material sources, enhance production efficiency and expand production capacity to meet domestic needs,” he said.

Akmal Nasrullah said the government is also emphasising the production of bio-organic fertiliser as an alternative to conventional fertiliser.

He said this is to reduce dependence on imported inputs, extend fertiliser supply and support the country’s food security amid the global supply crisis.
