KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 21 – Gamuda Bhd’s joint venture with BMD Constructions Pty Ltd has secured a A$624 million (approximately RM1.8 billion) design-and-construct contract for two road upgrades in Western Sydney, Australia.
In a filing with Bursa Malaysia on Monday, Gamuda said Transport for New South Wales awarded the Elizabeth Drive Upgrade-Mamre Road Upgrade Stage 2 project to the Gamuda-BMD Joint Venture (GBJV).
It said GBJV comprises Gamuda Engineering Pty Ltd, an indirect wholly owned subsidiary of Gamuda, and Australian civil construction company BMD on a 50:50 participation basis.
“Expected revenue from its 50% effective participation is A$312 million, equivalent to approximately RM908 million, while the contract commenced today and is targeted for completion in 2030.
“The contract involves the design and construction of civil and structural works to upgrade the existing Elizabeth Drive and Mamre Road at Kemps Creek in Western Sydney,” it added.
Its scope includes the upgrading of 4.5 kilometres (km) of Elizabeth Drive and three km of Mamre Road, as well as associated civil, structural and utility-relocation works.
Gamuda said the overall project is valued at approximately A$2.0 billion and is jointly funded by the Australian and New South Wales governments.
“The award represents a significant achievement for the JV and demonstrates Transport for New South Wales’ confidence in GBJV’s project-delivery capabilities.
“This project is significant for Gamuda Engineering Australia and will further deepen its design and construction capability in Australia’s road sector,” it said.
Gamuda said the contract would contribute positively to the group’s revenue and earnings over its duration.
