SHANGHAI, June 10 – Sarawak’s sustainable energy credentials have once again taken the global stage, as the state participates in the prestigious 2025 International Photovoltaic Power Generation and Smart Energy Exhibition and Conference held at the National Exhibition and Convention Centre (NECC) in Shanghai.
Deputy Minister for Utility (Sarawak Energy Berhad and PETROS) Datuk Ibrahim Baki, who is leading the Sarawak government delegation on a three-day official working visit to China, is scheduled to speak at the conference today (Jun 10), representing Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
The event until Jun 13 is the world’s largest and most influential trade exhibition and conference for solar photovoltaic (PV) and smart energy, featuring over 3,000 exhibitors from 95 countries.
The international platform offers opportunities to present and discuss policy updates, market trends, and to strengthen networking among industry players and policy stakeholders.
The conference gathers leading experts, academics, researchers, entrepreneurs, and representatives from China’s national institutions involved in solar PV and renewable energy, alongside senior executives from solar industry associations in Europe, Asia, and the Americas, to share their insights on the sector.
During the event, the Sarawak government through the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication (MUT) will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with China Three Gorges International Ltd (CGTI) and Shanghai Electric Power T&D Group Co. Ltd.
The MoU will facilitate various studies and collaborations between the Sarawak Government, CGTI, and Shanghai Electric in exploring the potential development of a floating solar farm with a capacity of up to 1,000 megawatts (MW) at the Bakun Hydroelectric Plant (HEP) catchment area.
The Sarawak delegation will visit the Shanghai Electric headquarters located in Minhang District.
In the evening, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian along with Ibrahim, Sarawak Energy Group chief executive officer Datuk Sharbini Suhaili, and other members of the delegation are scheduled to pay a courtesy call on Shanghai Mayor Gong Zheng.
On Wednesday, Dr. Sim and the delegation are scheduled to visit the Fudan University campus, one of China’s leading research institutions.
The visit aims to explore cutting-edge technologies, particularly in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI), and to identify potential strategic collaboration opportunities between both parties.
