IPOH, Sept 12 — The left lane at the landslide site at Kilometre (KM) 263.6 of the North-South Expressway (southbound) will be closed using safety cones, covering a stretch of approximately one kilometre from KM 262.8 to KM 263.8.
Perak police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin stated that the lane closure is a precautionary measure; currently, a contraflow lane has not been activated, and traffic movement is being monitored continuously based on conditions at the site.
“CCTV cameras at the nearby vista point will focused on the incident site to allow for continuous monitoring of the landslide area and traffic flow along that route,” he said in a statement today.
He added that the police, together with PLUS Malaysia Berhad (PLUS) and relevant agencies, are continuing to monitor the site to ensure the safety of highway users.
He advised motorists to drive carefully, adhere to instructions from personnel and safety signage, and reduce their speed when passing through the area.
Yesterday, the Malaysian Highway Authority (LLM) reported that a slope collapse at KM 263.6 of the North-South Expressway (southbound) – between the Menora Tunnel and Ipoh – had caused a traffic jam stretching 15 kilometres.
In a post on X, LLM noted that the congestion initially spanned four kilometres before increasing as cleanup operations at the site progressed.
