SHAH ALAM, June 5 — The government has introduced a new 10-year Malaysian passport priced at RM350 under a new regulation that took effect on June 3.
Under the Fees (Passports and Visas) (Amendment) Order 2026, published in the Federal Government Gazette on Wednesday, the fee applies to applicants aged 18 to 59.
Senior citizens aged 60 and above will be charged RM175, while persons with disabilities (OKU) aged 18 and above who hold a valid OKU card, as well as Immigration Department officers and staff, are eligible to receive the passport free of charge.
According to the gazette, children aged 12 and below, students aged 21 and below pursuing degree programmes abroad, haj pilgrims, and persons with disabilities under 18 will remain under the existing five-year passport category.
Higher replacement fees have also been introduced for lost or damaged 10-year passports, with adults to be charged RM550 for the first replacement, RM850 for the second replacement and RM1,350 for the third and subsequent replacements.
For senior citizens, the fees are RM375 for the first replacement, RM675 for the second replacement and RM1,175 for the third and subsequent replacements.
Eligible OKU card holders and Immigration Department personnel will pay RM200 for the first replacement, RM500 for the second replacement and RM1,000 for the third and subsequent replacements.
The amendments were made on February 16 under the Fees Act 1951.
The Immigration Department, however, has yet to announce when applications for the 10-year passport will open or whether it has already been made available to the public.
The amendment marks a significant change to Malaysia’s passport system, which has traditionally issued passports with a five-year validity period. – Media Selangor
