MOSCOW, Aug 27 — More than 380 tourists, including 291 foreigners, went missing after floods in Nepal, the Nepal Tourism Board said on Wednesday, reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
“A preliminary agency-wise record received from tourism and travel companies has identified 384 travellers, including 291 foreign nationals and 93 Nepali nationals, who were reported missing from the affected areas. The information is being verified and cross-checked in coordination with travel agencies, guides, local authorities and security agencies,” the board said in a statement on the social media platform X.
More than 100 Indian citizens, 17 Malaysians, 12 Britons, four South Africans, three US citizens, one Australian and one Dutch citizen are missing, while the nationalities of another 111 people have yet to be confirmed, the board also said.
Earlier on Wednesday, the Kathmandu Post reported that a powerful flood in mountainous Nepal had swept into the Bhote Koshi River, causing significant damage to homes and infrastructure.
Authorities issued a high alert for downstream communities.
