29 Killed, 42 Injured in Israeli Airstrikes in Southern Lebanon in New Ceasefire Violation

ISTANBUL, May 1 — At least 29 people, including four members of a family, were killed and 42 others injured in Israeli airstrikes on several towns in southern Lebanon on Thursday despite a temporary ceasefire, Anadolu Ajansi reported, citing health authorities and local media.

The state-run National News Agency said four people were killed and nine injured in a strike in the town of Jibchit, where a residential building was destroyed.

In the town of Toul, four people were killed and 11 others wounded, with another residential building destroyed.

Two more people were killed in the town of Harouf, where a house was hit by an Israeli aircraft, the agency said.

The Health Ministry confirmed the fatalities, saying five women and two children were among the victims in the three attacks, while 23 others were injured, including seven women and six children.

Another Israeli attack on Jibchit killed a family of four after their home was hit and destroyed.

In a separate strike in Toul, one person was killed, two others were injured, including a girl critically, in the bombing of a residential house.

Israeli fighter jets bombed the town of Zebdine, leaving at least six people dead, NNA said.

The news agency also said another Israeli strike on the town of Shaabiyeh in the Tyre district killed two people and wounded one.

Two more people were killed and one injured in Israeli airstrike on Qana in Tyre.

Deputy mayor of Jannata, Ahmed al-Husseini, killed in separate strike between Maaroub and Hmairi of Tyre.

A father and his daughter were also killed in an Israeli airstrike in the town of Alhenniya, the same source said.

The Lebanese army said a soldier and family members were killed in an Israeli airstrike on their home in the town of Kfarreman in Nabatieh.

A tally by Anadolu showed that the Israeli army carried out 73 airstrikes and artillery shelling in Lebanon on Thursday.

Israeli warplanes also carried out a strike on the town of Sultaniyeh, while artillery shelling targeted the outskirts of Zawtar al-Sharqiya and Mifadoun.

Since March 2, Israel has waged a deadly offensive on Lebanon that has killed nearly 2,600 people, wounded over 8,000, and displaced more than 1.6 million — about one-fifth of the population, according to official figures.

A 10-day ceasefire that began April 17 was later extended until May 17, but Israel continues to violate it daily through airstrikes and the demolition of homes in southern Lebanon.
