WASHINGTON, Sept 20 — The average price of diesel fuel in the United States (US) has once again hit a record high, exceeding $6.48 per gallon (about 3.8 litres), according to data from the American Automobile Association (AAA), reported Sputnik/RIA Novosti.
The price rose by about four cents in a single day and by nearly eight cents over the course of the week.
By comparison, a gallon of diesel fuel cost nearly half as much a year ago, at around US$3.70.
Diesel is most expensive in California, at US$8.42 per gallon.
The price of diesel fuel directly affects the cost of goods, as it powers agricultural machinery and heavy-duty trucks used in supply chains.
